FTTH Microcables

It was in 2009 when OPTRAL supplied the first 500 km of microcables 24fo and 48fo to EstWin Project broadband infrastructure network. This project was created to provide ultra-fast connectivity in Estonia. Today Estonia updated the targets for broadband as part of its Digital Agenda 2020, and more than 25.000 km of the installed optical fibre was manufactured in our Barcelona factory thanks to our distributor Baltronic.

Microcables are installed by blowing in pre-installed buried micro-ducts. Blowing means cost reduction deployment, compared with fibre optic classic installation methods (duct, directly buried, or ADSS). There are several advantages in the blowing cable technology, but main one is rapidness, and work simplicity: with in a single duct installation, customer would have multiple options of fibre optic counts and cable upgrade in the future.

OPTRAL is always willing to be close to customer needs, and that was the way we learned how important is stiffness and cable diameter tolerance to succeed blowing fibre optic micro cables. OPTRAL produce microcables type ABD and mini-ABD specifically designed to reach distances of more than 2 km with high blowing speed.
